where's all the folf courses?

I've just moved to Boze from Msla and I'm into folfing alot. I was wandering where the courses are? Somebody let me know and maybe we'll meet at the fourtwenty hole?

POSTED: 2003-06-11

Why don't you start a new one...

POSTED: 2003-06-12 10:37:09

Hasn't anyone told you...folf hurts trees both physically and emotionally. In Bozeman that equates to no folf course. If I am correct the city passed a city wide ordinance disallowing the touching of trees...well...except for hugging.

I actually think there is still one up at Bridger somewhere I not sure if it is still here or not. I think maybe we should set one up like they have in Missoula. I played on a nice course there a couple of times. They had nifty little poles set up with a metal top so if you hit it would make a clanking noise to let you know if you scored or not.

POSTED: 2003-06-19 14:46:19

The Bridgers have one and there is also one out in Big Sky. Now Bozeman needs one. Who wants to drive a half hour or more when you could walk to a park to play. I say let's start a new one (somewhere without a million trees to hit.) That will keep the "huggers" happy!

The main problem is that there used to be a good course in Lindley PArk, quite popular actually. However, it was not official and no group was ever formed to maintain the course and take responsibility for what went on there. Also it was in a lousy place along a trail where there were often people trying to walk getting hit with frisbees and dogs stealing people's frisbees. I guess the people who designed that one spent a little too much time on the 420 hole if you ask me but there is still hope if a clear-headed folfer gets their ideas together and comes up with a mature plan there is certainly enough interest in the sport for a successful course.

POSTED: 2003-07-03 16:13:35

Yeah, i'm looking for a good course, too. More details on location up Bridger?

Seems there is a lot of land west of Kirk park. But it's so flat and open, even if it is park land.

Hi there,

There actually is a folf course in Bozeman,
it's onsite at Monforton Middle School.

It is open to the public and well thought
out and designed. Might not be open in the
winter months.

Monforton Middle School is on Monforton SchoolRoad off of Huffine
[turn just before Conlins Furniture]

I know the builders of this course and they
would absolutely love everyone to go out
there and take advantage of it.

If a dog takes your disc, does it cost you a "stroke"? (or maybe just give you one?)

POSTED: 2003-12-16 11:07:51

From what I've heard, there is one in the works that will go behind the new development near Borders and those stores. A sizeable amount of city money will pay for landscaping, although it may be a year or two before it is fully developed. Hope that helps. -Dave

Whoever recommended going to midforten to play folf is obviously retarded. Don't waste your time to be dissapointed. It consists of 4 holes in an area of about 100 sq yards. folf sucks in bozeman.

In 2001 disc golf was forced out of Lindley park by the removal of a target course. However, the City, in cooperation with disc golf enthusiasts, has begun the process of creating a new place for disc golf to be played. Recent commitments by the City include dedicating all of Rose Park to disc sports and $75,000 in development money. In return, the City expects our entire disc golf community to respect the new ordinance not to play disc golf at Lindley. In the interest of keeping on the good side of the City, we (those of us who are busy with installing the course at Rose Park for you) ask you to make our job easier by respecting that ordinace too.

Within the first year it was understood by all that there was to be no disc golf in the park and it was the most vacant we had ever seen, but in past couple of years that has changed.

With the constant influx of new people to this valley, new disc golf players have filtered back into the park since it is a natural fit for the sport. With no signs stating this "City Ordinance," there was nothing to inform new players of what was going on. Now putting up these signs stating that there is to be no disc golf in the park has been met with some juvenile acts which does not represent the feelings of hundreds of other appreciative disc golfers who patiently await the opening of the new community disc golf center in Rose park. The vast majority of disc golf players in Bozeman respect the closure of Lindley as a disc golf location. The Rose Park development team asks you to also please abide by the disc golf ban at Lindley, and educate other the players of what is going on, and encourage the activity to stop before tickets start being handed out.

A new disc golf course is currently heavily supported by the City Bozeman, and is in the works, but will not be playable until 2006. With no other place for this activity to occur we are worried there are no good answers and can only hope that people can understand and be patient with this situation.

Bo Hart has the only open course during the spring / summer ( past Bridger ). A new course is being built in Rose park but it won't be ready this year. Ther are some courses that are in private areas but nothing official. always interested in a 4 20 break though

POSTED: 2006-02-21 13:43:35

PEOPLE, PLEASE STOP CALLING OUR SPORT FOLF!! IT IS CALLED DISC GOLF!! CALLING IT FOLF IS ALMOST AS GAY AS BANNING IT FROM LINDLEY PARK.

POSTED: 2006-06-25 20:30:07

Folfers play at Lindley. Disc Golfers play at Battle Ridge...

POSTED: 2006-06-30 13:50:54

I'm just glad they don't call it "fRolf!"

But for the record, if you use a Wham-o Frisbee disc for your golf game, then you play "Folf." If you use a Discraft, Innova, or other flying disc specifically made just for golf, then you play "Disc golf."

I don't know about the "gay" aspects of it all though. :-)

POSTED: 2006-06-30 14:45:52

Whamo made the first golf frisbees and Whamo currently produces PDGA approved flying discs for disc golf, dontcha know?

I've read that public parks are common pick-up grounds for hypersexualized gay men, as well as often being top choices for disc golf course installation, but there does not appear to be much crossover between the two activities, as far as I've seen.

Now that this forum has officially hit rock bottom, maybe it's time to check out nrdga.com, gardencityflyers.org., or airfairways.com...

POSTED: 2006-06-30 14:59:33

So this forum has been dead for some time...anyone have updates on disc golf courses being operational/playable this spring/summer?

POSTED: 2007-04-30 20:38:02

The Battle Ridge hanging tone course (18 plus 2 bonus holes) is currently in great shape. The course may change dependent on other use in the area (ie the new road may open soon). Go up the new road, around the corner, and look for tee #1 on the left.

POSTED: 2007-05-02 12:48:28

This Battle Ridge you speak of sounds good...where is it?

POSTED: 2007-05-02 17:04:30

Battle Ridge is a camp ground about 3-4 miles past Bridger bowl. Right at the top of a hill you will see a FS sign for Battle Ridge. Pull into the campground and park near the road you just pulled off. Head West or back across the highway and work your way up the newly cut in road. there is a gate about 150yd. look for a trail heading North or up the slight ridge away from the gate. you will find hole one tee there the rest of the course is rather easy to follow...
!! PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT !!

There's a course laid out at Rose Park in Bozeman.
It's located on West Oak Street and Woodland Drive. Only a 12-hole course, but still a good place to throw some disc!
